Film Outline

This outline is for a feature documentary film and is based on preliminary interviews; all access, contributors and personal archive are confirmed. A full feature-length film treatment is available upon request.

Laura and Venus (current day)

Migrants on the Midway will be an uplifting empowering film. Often, films about Filipinos and migrant workers focus on predominantly harrowing narratives. This film will challenge that generalisation by showing a friendship between two longterm overseas Filipino workers, Laura and Venus.

The film will be a reflection on their migration and on their bi-racial families, as they contemplate returning to the Philippines in retirement. It will be a celebration of their adventures overseas - a positive representation of migrant people and a ‘success story’ of migrant workers.
— Xenia Glen (Director and Producer)

Producers

Giullienne Sanchez

Giullienne is co-founder of SarilingBinhi Multimedia and is an Indigenous Filipino Filmmaker and a Community Worker. Born and raised in Baguio City, Philippines with maternal roots from all over the Cordilleras and paternal roots from Visayas, Mindanao, and some British-American ancestors—Giullienne has a macro and global perspective when it comes to her work, with common themes of compassion and universal interconnectedness. As a budding filmmaker, she continues to learn from Filipino and International perspectives, as she was awarded a full scholarship by Toronto Film School, and is under the mentorship of two Filipino National Artists—Ricky Lee & Kidlat Tahimik. She continuously creates with purpose—writes, produces music videos, campaigns, ads; creates short films that empower regional themes and talents, and she involves herself in documentaries that she hopes will awaken humanity and make the world a much better place.

Xenia Glen

Xenia is a Dorset-based Filipino-British writer/director and producer. Her latest film, THE MEMORY BOOM, an experimental feature documentary commissioned by National Lottery Heritage, will premiere at the 28th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. The film explores dementia through spoken word and decayed archive footage.

Her short film ALO premiered at the 67th BFI London Film Festival and was programmed in Sundance Film Festival London. Xenia is developing CARABAO, a feature expansion of ALO, with Dominic Buchanan at Home Team. Xenia received the BFI Network’s Early Development Fund for CARABAO.

In 2022, Xenia co-founded Sleepwalker, a Dorset-based filmmakers' collective and production company. Through Sleepwalker, Xenia uplifts filmmakers from unconventional backgrounds and promotes ethical filmmaking.
